Eulogy Grandmother

eulogy grandmother
I just came back from a catholic funeral, and the priest would NOT let the granddaughter do a eulogy…why?

I just had to attend a catholic funeral. My girlfriend spent weeks preparing a eulogy for the event. She has an immense fear of public speaking, so this really was a big deal for her.

Anyways, when we get to the church and when the director of the funeral and told the priest that the granddaughter had a eulogy, he said she CAN’T do it, since it was not pre-approved by him!!!!

So. this really upset the family to say the least!!!

…is this normal of a priest to deny a granddaughter the floor to talk about her deceased Grandmother?

In all seriousness, this eulogy was very heart felt…we had to sit through an hour of services talking about how this woman is the daugther of god, but denied the ability to talk about how this woman really spent her life and what she enjoyed doing in life!!!

I come from a huge Irish Catholic family and I’ve never heard of anything like this.

The only thing I can think of is why wasn’t this arranged with the priest before the actual funeral mass took place?

The priest was a jerk, but that may have really been the reason why he felt justified in being an azzwipe.
